Slewing bearings often have to move large heavy loads, such as wind turbines, or solar panels, to track the optimal wind or sun direction. In shipping and port container handling areas, large loads move over the rotating joint of a crane jib. For these types of applications like the inductive position coding system PCI helps to optimize movement by means of precise position measurement feedback to the control system.
The sensor detects multiple steel pins along a code rail and calculates the absolute angle position of the bearing. The exact position is immediately available without the requirement of a homing cycle after powering on the PCI inductive position coding system. This is essential for maintenance work, and is a big advantage for applications with frequent or cyclical power interruptions.
Designed for bearing diameter of 0.5 m … 4 m, the coding system delivers an absolute angular resolution of a few tenths of a degree. Depending on the required accuracy, angular velocities between 3 ° / sec and 12 ° / sec are achievable. The construction of the PCI system allows for customization of both the mechanical and user interface to meet specialized customer applications.
